483 5.00 42×30 The Mediterranean Campaign of the Russian Squadron (in cooperation with the Turkish Navy) led by Admiral F.F.Ushakov took place in 1798-1800 when Russia, in coalition with England, Austria, Turkey, and other countries, was at war with Napoleonic France. The Squadron took the Ionic Islands at the Balkan Peninsula, and the Isle of Corfu, took part in liberation of Southern Italy from the French troops. The stamp and the margins of the sheet feature the landing of troops from the ships of the Squadron and the storm of the Corfu fortress (1799). The successful storm of Corfu is a fine example of well-coordinated and planned efforts of the landing troops and the ship artillery of the Russian Squadron. The stamp also features \"St.Paul\", a flagship of the Ushakov´s Squadron.
